DESCRIPTION: Adelaide Pound 1852 Type II. Fully and sharply struck with mirror-like satin mint bloom, near flawless proof-like surfaces and no trace of wear. Struck with a fully struck up Orb with every detail on the Crown razor sharp. Full denticles, a sharp rim and fully struck up through the legend. Ex Harold Hastings-Deerings (1962) to Dr Smith via Hasting-Deerings will (1970s), and Coinworks Eminent Colonials Auction August 2012 (sold for $370,000 the first time this coin had been publicly offered). Described to me in a recent discussion with Barrie Winsor as- By far the best Type II Adelaide Pound- and we can only but agree. The finest example of this issue known with fantastic eye appeal and one of the most significant Australian coins ever offered.
